CLEBC has been working with a group of knowledgeable, conscientious and hard working practitioners to develop courses on WESA and the new Probate Rules.

The first course scheduled is called "WESA and the New Rules: Is Your Estates Practice Ready?". It is a two day course being held on Thursday and Friday November 21st and 22nd. The live course will be run in Vancouver and be offered simultaneously as a webinar. In addition, the course will be rebroadcast a number of times, including December 16th & 17th, 2013; December 18th & 19th, 2013; January 16th & 17th, 2014; and March 24 & 25, 2014.

CLEBC is putting on the course in collaboration with the BC Law Institute and we have been working closely with Jim Emmerton and Greg Blue from BCLI. The Chairs of the course are Fiona Hunter, Helen Low and Roger Lee. We have put together a comprehensive and detailed agenda, and faculty include Madam Justice Sandra Ballance, Madam Justice Jane Dardi, Mary Hamilton, Carmen Theriault, Genevieve Taylor, Ken Burnett, Jim Baird, Amy Francis, Rhys Davies, Hugh McLellan and Peter Ramsay.

Practitioners who are getting their practice ready for the changes to be brought in on March 31, 2014 will benefit from this course. Day one will focus on Estate Planning issues and day two will deal with a combination of Estate Administration and Estate Litigation issues. Find out how the new legislation will change the advice needed by your planning clients, and how the new estate administration and estate litigation procedures will affect your practice. This course is much more comprehensive and thorough than the introductory course held in November 2010.

In February 2014 we will also be running courses on the new Probate Rules.

Day 1 will be a full day and the course will deal with the nuts and bolts of WESA's provisions affecting estate administration and the new Probate Rules. The full day course is being held in Vancouver on February 13, in Victoria on February 20, and in Kelowna on February 27, 2014. The course will be called "Estate Administration: Navigating the New Rules"

Day 2 will be a half day and the course will look at the rules and forms in more detail, particularly the procedures to apply for administration grants. This course will be geared towards paralegals, legal support staff and junior lawyers. The half day course is being held in Vancouver on February 14, in Victoria on February 21, and in Kelowna on February 28, 2014. This course is called "Estates Applications Under the New Rules"

The materials for the November course will be the Updated WESA Transition Guide published by CLEBC. It is highly recommended that registrants purchase a copy of the guide and bring it with them to the course. The February courses will use chapters of CLEBC’s Updated BC Probate and Estate Administration Practice Manual.

Visit our online store or call 604-893-2121 to register for these courses. We are sure you will find the courses valuable as you prepare and get ready for the WESA in force date.
